UCSD Gains Semifinals of NCAA Soccer Play
LA JOLLA —
Robert Paterson scored in the 83rd minute to give UC San Diego a 1-0 upset victory over previously unbeaten St. John’s University (Collegeville, Minn.) Sunday in the NCAA Division III Far West/Midwest Regional final.
UCSD (16-5) advanced to the national semifinals where it will play Messiah College (Grantham, Pa.) in a match Friday at a site to be determined. Messiah (17-3) defeated Ohio Northern, 1-0.
The other semifinal matchup has State University of New York at Fredonia meeting North Carolina-Greensboro, the defending national champion. The championship game will be Sunday.
