Countywide : 3-Year Pact Approved by OCTD and Teamsters

Service employees and bus mechanics will receive a 7.5% salary increase spread over three years under a new work contract approved Monday by the county Transit District and Teamsters Union Local 952.

The agreement does not include the district’s 732 drivers, who are represented by United Transportation Union Local 19. Negotiations on the drivers’ contract were still under way Monday.

The contract agreement reached Monday affects 202 OCTD full- and part-time employees, who will receive a 2% raise retroactive to Nov. 1 for the first year of the three-year pact. They will receive a 2.5% raise the second year; 2% for the first half of the third year, and 1% for the last six months of the contract ending Sept. 30, 1989.

OCTD spokeswoman Joanne Curran said the new contract also includes an attendance bonus of $100 per year per employee if absenteeism stays below 3%.

Current salaries for service employees and mechanics range from $9.59 an hour to $14.49 per hour. According to Curran, the absentee rate now is 2.2% which includes tardiness of from one minute to two hours.
