Local News in Brief : Motorcylist Dies After Colliding With Truck
A North Hollywood motorcycle rider was killed Thursday night in a collision with a truck that fled the scene, Los Angeles police said Friday.
Witnesses said Patrick Schardt, 25, was riding west at about 65 m.p.h. on Nordhoff Street in Northridge about 5:50 p.m. when he hit the rear of a van or pickup truck, said Officer Jack Blacklock.
Schardt was thrown into the path of an oncoming car near Etiwanda Avenue and struck. He later died of massive head and chest injuries at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, Blacklock said.
