Irvine : Security Guard Held in Stabbing Death
A security guard on duty at a construction site was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of murder in the stabbing death of undentified man, police said.
Sgt. Gary Shull said George William Kupel, 21, was arrested at 2 a.m. at an apartment construction site in the 400 block of Hayes Street.
Kupel was booked into the Newport Beach City Jail on suspicion of murder, Shull said.
He said the victim, described as about 50 years old, was stabbed several times in the upper body. His name was withheld pending notification of relatives.
Shull said police did not know the motive for the stabbing, nor why the victim was at the construction site. He said Kupel was on duty at the time of the stabbing and that the victim was stabbed with a knife Kupel had in his car.
