Community College Basketball : Cerritos Tops Grossmont in Fullerton Tournament

Willie Joseph scored 28 points to lead Cerritos College to a 90-87 victory over Grossmont in the championship game of the Fullerton tournament at Fullerton College Saturday night.

Joseph was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

Ron Fischer added 30 points and Bryan Williams 16 for Cerritos. Shaun Manning scored 26 points for Grossmont.

Cerritos is 3-0.

In the tournament’s third-place game:

Santa Barbara 81, Fullerton 60--James Gama scored a game-high 27 points and Chenault Terry added 15 to lead Santa Barbara. Troy Joseph, with 13 points, was the only Hornet player to reach double figures in scoring.

In the fifth-place game:

Saddleback 83, Riverside 62--Tony Villanueva scored 16 points and Vincent Smalls added 14 to lead the Gauchos. Saddleback took a 37-28 halftime lead. Riverside’s Mike Stewart led all scorers with 20 points.

In nonconference play:

Orange Coast 59, Mt. SAC 49--Rob Mase scored 24 points to lead the Pirates at Mt. San Antonio College. Miguel Flores led Mt. SAC with 17 points. OCC led at halftime, 35-24.

Mt. SAC fell to 0-2.

Golden West 79, San Diego Mesa 60--Jim Stewart scored 21 points to lead the Rustlers at Golden West. Phil Ives scored 15 points for San Diego Mesa.

Golden West (1-1) plays host to the Golden West Alumni team Wednesday.
