Anaheim : Christmas Ornaments Made for National Tree
Sandy Keil, an art teacher at Esperanza High School, has an early start on the Christmas spirit.
In recent days, Keil has been supervising an unusual assignment for some of her art students. They have been at work making decorations for the national Christmas tree. The tree this year is coming from Northern California, and President Reagan has asked Orange County to help supply the decorations for the 54-foot red spruce.
Placentia Unified School District is providing 30 of those ornaments, with the art departments at Esperanza, El Dorado and Valencia high schools making 10 decorations each.
The Esperanza High students recently showed off their creations, shortly before the Christmas decorations were to be shipped to Washington. Art teacher Keil said her “elves”--who designed and made the ornaments--were students Dennis Taberski and Tracy Owen of Yorba Linda, Leslie Lanz and Randy Clegg of Anaheim and Maria Hammer of Orange.
The ornaments ultimately will adorn the tree on the grounds of the White House. The tree is traditionally lighted by the President each year to launch the observance of the Christmas season.
