Share

The owner of a trucking company was killed Sunday in Van Nuys when he was crushed between two of his trucks after one of his drivers accidentally backed into him, police said.

Rafael Hermida, 30, was standing in the street next to one of his trucks on Orion Avenue when he was struck by another truck driven by one of his employees, Luis Santana, 33, police said. Both men are Los Angeles residents. Police said the accident, just south of Roscoe Boulevard, occurred at 1:40 p.m.

Hermida was pronounced dead at the scene, Officer Thomas Whetzel said.

Santana was arrested on an outstanding traffic warrant, and was being held at Los Angeles county jail, Whetzel said. He said investigators may file involuntary manslaughter charges against Santana this week.
