The Chicago White Sox have given the Angels permission to negotiate with either a scout or front office executive of their choosing as compensation for the recent signing of Al Goldis, the Angels’ Eastern scouting supervisor, as their farm director.

The signing of Goldis by new Chicago General Manager Larry Himes, who was formerly scouting director of the Angels, triggered a reported threat of wide-scale raids on the Angels scouting staff by Himes.

Angel General Manager Mike Port, admittedly unhappy over the situation, said Sunday he was hopeful it could be resolved “short of going to higher authority,” implying that a grievance could be filed.
