Kansas State forward Norris Coleman, the top freshman scorer in Division I last season, accepted the NCAA’s offer to cut in half his suspension for academic rule violations.
Coleman originally was told to sit out 27 games this season because he violated NCAA rules by playing for Kansas State last season despite having a high school grade-point average under 2.0.
The NCAA’s committee on eligibility appeals voted Friday to reduce Coleman’s suspension to 14 games. Because he sat out the last two games of the 1985-86 season, the suspension will cover just 12 games this season.
