A NEW POP PRINCESS FOR PRINCE?: Vanity is making movies . . . Apollonia is doing TV . . . Sheila E. has been opening tour dates for Lionel Richie. So isn’t it time Prince had a new protege? You bet. The Purple One’s latest find is Taj a Seville, a beautiful young singer from Minneapolis who’s already been nicknamed “the black Madonna.” Seville is finishing up her debut album, which is due out on Prince’s Paisley Park label (distributed by Warner Bros. Records) in February. The record is about equally divided between original songs by Seville (including a possible single called “Love Is Contagious”) and tracks by Chico Bennette, the album’s co-producer. Prince, who discovered Seville as an extra on his film “Purple Rain,” has also contributed a pair of songs that may end up on the final version of the record. The media-shy Prince camp has been typically vague about describing Seville’s “sound,” except to say that the exotic songstress is reminiscent of Sade, Madonna and Rickie Lee Jones.
