CS Long Beach Loses in Overtime, 92-88
New Mexico got 30 points from Kelvin Scarborough and three consecutive three-point baskets in overtime to defeat Cal State Long Beach State, 92-88, Saturday night in the semifinals of the Silversword Invitational basketball tournament.
Long Beach’s Morton Wiley, who finished with 20 points, forced New Mexico (2-0) into overtime by sinking a three-point basket with two seconds left in regulation.
New Mexico had outscored the 49ers, 11-0, in the last three minutes to take a 77-74 lead. Wiley then hit from the top of the key.
The 49ers led, 86-79, with 1:47 left in the extra period before Scarborough hit a three-pointer and Kelley Graves added two three-pointers within a 37-second span.
Will Perdue scored 21 points, and Barry Booker added 18 as Vanderbilt (2-0) defeated Missouri, 69-54, in the other semifinal.
