NHL Roundup : Washington Snaps Its Winless Streak of 10 Games by Beating Montreal, 2-1
Alan Haworth’s wrist shot at 1:48 of the overtime period enabled the Washington Capitals to snap one streak and extend another Monday night at the Montreal Forum.
Haworth’s 13th goal, off a pass from the corner by Greg Adams, gave the Capitals a 2-1 victory, ending their winless streak at 10 games.
The win improved Washington’s record to 8-13-5, giving the Capitals 21 points and moving them into fifth place in the Adams Division ahead of the New York Rangers.
Lou Franceschetti’s wrist shot late in the second period that deflected off the skate of Montreal defenseman Peter Svodova tied the score.
The loss extended Montreal’s losing streak to five games.
Quebec 4, Hartford 1--Michel Goulet scored twice, and goalie Clint Malarchuck turned away 27 shots at Quebec as the Nordiques extended their lead over second-place Montreal in the Adams Division to three points.
The victory was the Nordiques’ fifth in their last six games. Malarchuck has been in the nets for all six of the games and has allowed only 10 goals.
