A motorcycle accident killed a man and woman about 6 p.m. Monday on Paradise Valley Road in Spring Valley.
The California Highway Patrol said Tuesday that the couple was traveling east about 40 m.p.h. near Sweetwater Road and South Bay Parkway when their motorcycle crossed the center line, skidded out of control and slid under an oncoming truck.
The driver of the motorcycle, Mark Sudney, 21, and his passenger, Marsi Townsend, 19, of Valley Center, were flown by Life Flight helicopter to UC San Diego Medical Center, where Sudney was pronounced dead. Townsend died about four hours later, CHP investigator Steven M. Lykins said. Sudney was a sailor based at North Island Naval Air Station.
Both victims suffered severe internal injuries.
The driver of the truck was not injured, investigators said.
