Share

Comedian Tom McGillen, who has been invited to perform at the upcoming National Assn. of Colleges’ annual convention, will headline Comedy Night at Cal State Fullerton tonight.

At the Feb 18. convention--”a big money, heavy prestige gig,” as he called it--McGillen will share the stage with some high-profile funnymen. Also performing at the show in Nashville, Tenn., are Rich Hall (whose television credits include “Saturday Night Live,” “Fridays,” and HBO’s “Not Necessarily the News”) and ventriloquist Jay Johnson (best known from “Soap”).

In addition to his appearance for the National Assn. of Colleges, McGillen will undertake a national tour of college and university campuses.

McGillen presents a fast-paced act that ranges from screwball singing impressions of Jack Nicholson and Popeye to a remarkable parody of Japanese monster movies. He is a regular at the Improv in Hollywood, has played Las Vegas and Reno, and has headlined at most of the major comedy clubs across the country.

Tonight’s Cal State Fullerton show will feature another solid, experienced comedian: Pat Hanifin, a Huntington Beach resident, who performs regularly at the Laff Stop in Newport Beach and the Comedy Store in Hollywood, and now works frequently on the road. Comedian Steve Mengola also will appear.

The school’s Comedy Night features shows in The Pub at 8 and 10:30 p.m. The campus is at 800 N. State College Blvd., Fullerton. For more information, call (714) 773-3501.
