A 74-year old Santa Ana woman was fatally injured in a traffic collision Monday morning after she apparently failed to stop at a red light, authorities said.
Irene Irbe died from internal injuries suffered when her 1986 Toyota collided with a Mercedes-Benz that was turning left between Fairview Road and Merrimac Way near Orange Coast Community College, Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Alan Kent said.
Her vehicle collided with the front of the Mercedes, then veered into a traffic signal pole, Kent said.
Irbe, who was taken to Fountain Valley Regional Trauma Center, was pronounced dead of “hemorrhagic shock,” at 12:44 p.m., Kent said.
The unidentified driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
