An earthquake caused widespread damage in northern and northeastern Bulgaria, killing three people, injuring more than 30 and leaving more than 3,000 homeless, the official BTA news agency said. It said the quake struck Sunday and measured 5.5 on the Richter scale. It was centered near Strazhitsa, 145 miles east of Sofia, the capital. The area was hit by another quake Monday but there were no reports of additional damage or casualties. BTA said more than 80 buildings in the Strazhitsa area were destroyed.
