A convicted rapist has been identified as the suspect in the 1985 murder of an 18-year-old woman whose skeletal remains were found Dec. 3 in a wooded area north of Mulholland Drive and west of Coldwater Canyon, Los Angeles police said. Detective Howard Landgren said police believe Edward Arne Matthews, 29, of North Hollywood killed Lisa Ann Mather, 18, after meeting her outside the Whisky A Go Go nightclub on Sunset Boulevard on Jan. 12, 1985. Matthews is serving a 10-year sentence at the California Men’s Colony at San Luis Obispo for raping two women in 1984, Landgren said. “Detectives began linking the suspect to Lisa’s death after it was determined that her remains were discovered in the same area where the other two rapes took place and that she disappeared from the same area where the other two rape victims met the suspect,” Landgren said.
