Former hockey star Bobby Hull was charged with assault and battery after allegedly hitting his wife during a late-night argument in the parking lot of their condominium, police said Wednesday.

“There was evidence he had struck his wife in the face. She had some contusions, some swelling,” Police Chief Steven List said. Police received a complaint of noise from an unidentified neighbor early Monday and sent a squad car to the scene, List said.

Apparently, Hull, 47, and his wife, Deborah, 34, had an argument in the parking lot when they returned from an evening out, and Hull appeared to have been drinking, List said.

Hull spent the rest of the night in jail and posted 10% of a $3,000 bond before being released, List said. Hull is scheduled to appear in Du Page County Court in Wheaton Jan. 14.
