Senior linebacker Ladd Akeo of Brigham Young...
Senior linebacker Ladd Akeo of Brigham Young was placed on academic probation for the rest of the school year because of his alleged involvement in altering drug prescriptions, but he will be allowed to play in the Freedom Bowl Dec. 30, BYU officials said.
Akeo and two other starters, linebacker J.C. VanColln and tight end Trevor Mollini, were charged with altering prescriptions for two painkillers, Percodan and Percocet. School spokesman Paul Richards said, however, that Akeo was not seriously involved in the altering of prescriptions.
Both VanColln and Mollini have voluntarily admitted themselves to a drug rehabilitation program.
