Help on the Freeway

Share

I just want to tell you how kind the people are out here in Orange County. We’ve just moved from the New York area, where if your car broke down no one would care. My car stopped at the end of the San Diego Freeway ramp at Estrella. The transmission went out.

Two men came over lifted the hood and put on my flasher. A lady phoned my husband, who called for a tow truck. The lady came back to stay with me until the truck arrived. Eight or nine people stopped to ask me if I needed help. I just couldn’t believe all the nice people here.

I’m no spring chicken anymore, and for all those people to offer help was the kind of thing that restores your faith in human nature. I’m sure that in the New York area I would have been lucky if one person said they’d call a cop for me.
