Oakland police said they have a “strong lead” on the identity, but no further clues, to the motives of a deranged man who killed a 67-year-old woman by pounding her head into the sidewalk. Lucy Frans was killed in front of a grocery store near her home in the Fruitdale District. Her attacker was later stabbed to death when he went into the store and attacked two men, one of whom picked up a knife and retaliated. Police said the attacker appeared to have been under the influence of drugs.
