BASKETBALL HIGHLIGHTS : Gray Scores 31 to Lead Granada Hills, 54-47

Granada Hills High’s Gary Gray, an All-City selection last season, scored a game-high 31 points and 21 rebounds as the Highlanders defeated Carson, 54-47, in a nonleague game at Granada Hills on Tuesday.

“It was Gary’s best game of the year,” Granada Hills Coach Bob Johnson said. “His rebounding has really improved. He’s been working at being tough and at being in the right place and he really was tonight.”

The game was tied, 24-24, at halftime, but the Highlanders (3-1) sealed the win with a fourth-quarter rally led by Gray, who scored nine points in the period.

Terrell Smith and Sam Puathasnanon each shot poorly, but contributed to the win. Smith directed the offense and scored 12 points, while Puathasnanon had 11 rebounds.

Canoga Park 54, Chaminade 48 (OT)--Craig Galowitsch scored four of his 12 points in overtime as Canoga Park won the nonleague game at Chaminade. Canoga Park (2-1), which has won two straight after losing 20 in a row, was led by Orel Elrington, who scored 20 points. Kevin Black led Chaminade with 18 points.

Jordan 80, San Fernando 70--Despite 25 points and 20 rebounds by Charles Thomas, San Fernando lost the nonleague game at Jordan. Shelton Boykin of San Fernando (2-2) scored 10 of his 12 points in the first half and fouled out in the fourth quarter.

Ventura 52, Newbury Park 37--Newbury Park was led by Sean Doyle, who scored 12 points.

North Hollywood 61, Eagle Rock 59 (OT)--Dominic Nappi scored 22 points as North Hollywood (2-5) won the nonleague game at home.

Montclair Prep 68, Rosemead 58--John DeRouen scored 15 points to lead Montclair Prep (2-1) to the championship semifinal win in the Flintridge tournament.

Mountain View 61, St. Genevieve 52--Danny Lopez scored 10 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter as Mountain View came from behind to win the game in the consolation bracket of the Cathedral tournament.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

North Hollywood 50, Eagle Rock 37--Sandrine Rocher scored 18 points and had 11 rebounds to lead North Hollywood to the nonleague win at Eagle Rock. Debbie Herz added 11 points and 11 rebounds for North Hollywood (3-0).

Agoura 42, Oak Park 41--Agoura’s Vanessa Martin scored 14 of her 20 points in the fourth quarter, including the game-winning basket with 11 seconds left, in the nonleague game at Agoura. Paula Fraley led Oak Park with 15 points.

Burroughs 73, Bell-Jeff 28--Burroughs led by 26 points at halftime and coasted to the nonleague win at home behind Kim Powers’ 18 points. Karin Knoop added 16 points for Burroughs.

Simi Valley 69, Calabasas 49--Sandi Thomsen scored a game-high 28 points in a losing cause for Calabasas (2-2). Julie Arlotto and Paula Cooper led Simi Valley (6-2) with 25 and 17 points in the nonleague game at Calabasas.

L.A. Lutheran (Ventura) 45, West Valley Christian 30--Randi Arnold led West Valley Christian with 10 points.

Holy Martyrs 48, Marlborough 38--Ayline Amirayan scored 27 points to lead Holy Martyrs in the first round of the Marlborough tournament.

Campbell Hall 60, Leffingwell Christian 44--Tracey Sylvester and Margaret Archer each scored 14 points to pace Campbell Hall to the nonleague win at home.

St. Genevieve 57, Blair 36--Ann Beida scored 26 points and Elizabeth Morelos added 23 as St. Genevieve (4-0) won the nonleague game at Blair.

Chaminade 63, Crossroads 41--Led by Lucy Braker’s game-high 24 points, Chaminade (6-1) won its third straight game in a nonleague contest at home.

Camarillo 79, Nordhoff 40--Freshman Nicole Victoria scored 26 points for Camarillo (5-0) in the nonleague game.

Montclair Prep 40, Windward 18--Lorie Oleesky scored 18 points to lead the Montclair Prep to the nonleague win at home.

Grace Community 62, West L.A. Baptist 21--Tony Saccaro scored 17 points and Scott Lechuga added 16 for Grace Community (3-2).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Valley 60, Ventura 54--Dametra Johnson and Jeannie Washington each scored 17 points as Valley improved its record to 10-2 with the nonconference victory at home.
