A man described as “extremely dangerous” was sought Friday in the slaying of a woman whose dismembered body parts were found wrapped in plastic in a freezer and an apartment dumpster.

James David Evans, 42, whose true name is believed to be James Nofsinger, lived with the woman in the home in suburban Grand Terrace where sheriff’s investigators made the first of two grisly discoveries Thursday morning, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jim Bryant said.

The woman’s name was not released pending positive identification by the county coroner, Bryant said.

Deputies, called to the house by a friend of the woman, obtained a search warrant after finding fresh blood stains in the backyard.

Parts of the woman’s body, wrapped in plastic, were discovered in a freezer in the garage, Bryant said.

Further investigation led deputies to the Sunburst Apartments in Rialto where they found a car recently purchased by Evans.

In a dumpster outside the complex, investigators discovered the woman’s torso stuffed inside a plastic bag and sealed with tape, Bryant said.

Evans was an apartment maintenance worker for a Cathedral City development firm and had lived with the woman in the Grand Terrace home for the last year.

Neighbors described the couple as reclusive and reported that they had frequent arguments punctuated by “loud screams,” Bryant said.

Evans was last seen early Thursday at the Grand Terrace home. The woman’s friend, who lives in West Covina, had notified police Thursday that she could not make contact with her but had talked to Evans and received “evasive answers,” Bryant said.

Deputies found an empty holster in the home and believe Evans, a native of the Northern California community of Chico, took a .44-magnum revolver with him when he fled.

“He is armed and extremely dangerous,” Bryant said.

Bryant said Evans is wanted by authorities in the Chico area under the name Robert McKay for failing to make a court appearance on weapons violations.
