Chris Evert Lloyd Says Reports True: She and Her Husband Have Separated
Chris Evert Lloyd and her husband John Lloyd have agreed to a separation, the couple confirmed in a news story published Friday.
The separation, widely reported a month ago in the British tabloid press, is the second for the tennis-playing couple in their eight-year marriage. They have been separated for three months, the couple told the Fort Lauderdale News and Sun-Sentinel.
Mrs. Lloyd, who will be 32 Sunday, said that the separation, like the couple’s previous breakup in January 1984, “is a very amicable one.”
“Chrissie will continue to play tennis,” said Bob Kain, a representative of International Management Group, which manages the Lloyds. “John will continue to pursue opportunities outside of tennis from a Los Angeles base.”
The first separation was for six months. They reunited in July 1984 after the French Open and Wimbledon. They were married on April 17, 1979, in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church here.
Despite the separation, they said they are not considering divorce now.
“We tried very hard to do this in a private and dignified way,” Mrs. Lloyd said. “But unfortunately, due to some nasty and untrue stories, especially from the English press, we both felt it was necessary to set the record straight.”
