College Women’s Basketball : Fullerton Beats Utah St., 88-56

Sophomore Amy Torczon scored a career-high 23 points to lead Cal State Fullerton’s women’s basketball team to a 88-56 victory over Utah State Saturday night in Titan Gym.

Fullerton (3-5) also got a strong game from junior center Cathi Hall, who scored 19 points, and Bethel Lauder, who added 11.

Lauder scored nine points in the first half to help give the Titans a 40-30 halftime lead.

Utah State (0-7) was led by freshman center Jill Swainston with 19 points and forward SharLyn Hodson with 18. The Titans play host to Kansas State on Dec. 30 at Fullerton College. The Titans open Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. play on Jan. 3 at Nevada Las Vegas.

In other action: University of San Diego 57, UC Irvine 56--Jane Gilpen scored 17 points to lead the Toreros (3-4) past the Anteaters (1-5) in Crawford Hall. Cheryl Hoffman scored 11 points for the Anteaters and teammate Zalyna Walton added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
