A North Hollywood woman was kidnaped for two hours and stabbed by her ex-boyfriend, who threatened to “feed her to the sharks” for having him sent back to prison, Los Angeles police said Monday.

The woman, Susan Weaver, 43, escaped when she jumped from the man’s car in Venice, Detective Jim Wegman said. She was treated for a stab wound and an ankle injury and released after the Sunday afternoon attack, Wegman said.

Her former boyfriend, Edward Burnett, 31, was arrested by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies later Sunday in Tujunga Canyon on suspicion of drunk and disorderly conduct, and Los Angeles police subsequently arrested him on suspicion of kidnaping. He was being held Monday in lieu of $6,000 bail.

Burnett apparently abducted Weaver because, “He basically felt she’s the cause of all his problems,” Wegman said.

Imprisoned in Texas

Burnett was convicted of automobile burglary in 1984 and confined to a state prison in Huntsville, Tex., in 1985, according to a spokesman for the Texas Department of Corrections, David Nunnelee.

He was paroled in 1985 but was remanded to the Huntsville prison in August for a parole violation, Nunnelee said.

According to Los Angeles police, the violation stemmed from Burnett’s beating of Weaver in North Hollywood this July. Weaver called authorities after the incident, police said, and Burnett was arrested on a fugitive warrant.

Burnett was released from the Texas prison in October, Nunnelee said.

On Sunday, Burnett went to Weaver’s North Hollywood home in the 5300 block of Riverton Avenue, apparently to attempt a reconciliation, Wegman said. She refused and was forced into his car, the detective said.

Stabbed in Thigh

Burnett drove her to the Santa Monica Pier, where he pulled a knife, stabbed her in the left thigh and struck her, Wegman said.

“He said he was going to cut her up and feed her to the sharks,” he said.

Burnett, however, resumed driving, and Weaver escaped when the car slowed on Washington Boulevard in Venice, Wegman said. She was taken to Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital in Marina del Rey and released Sunday evening, he said.

Within two hours of her escape, Burnett was arrested by sheriff’s deputies in Tujunga Canyon after they received a complaint that he was drunk and noisy at a campground there. Police did not know where Burnett had been living.
