Two giant beacons have been mounted atop a Chino Hills water tower near the California Institute for Men to warn area residents of prisoner escapes. Residents, local politicians and San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies gathered for the unveiling of the two high-powered blue-and-amber beacons, normally used on airport runways. The 1-million candlepower lights were installed atop a 75,000-gallon water tank after repeated requests from residents for more warning systems to alert them of escapes.
