Linda Evans and Joan Collins have starred in non-”Dynasty” movies this season; now it’s John Forsythe’s turn. He has the leading role in “On Fire,” an ABC movie scheduled to air Jan. 5. He plays a fireman who suffers an identity crisis after being forced to retire at the age of 60. Forsythe is also executive producer of the movie.

Tom Brokaw will be the anchor on “To Be a Teacher,” an hourlong documentary that NBC has scheduled for Jan. 5. It examines the problems besetting the public school teacher both in and out of the classroom. Says Brokaw: “Good teachers are a natural resource and we are in danger of losing them.”

Film critics Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel will assess the best and worst of 1986’s movie crop over the next two weekends on their syndicated “Siskel & Ebert and the Movies” series. They will pick the year’s best films on the program that airs Saturday and next Sunday on KABC-TV Channel 7 and then select the year’s worst on the installment that will be seen Jan. 10 and 11.

David Heeley and Joan Kramer, who have produced public TV salutes to Fred Astaire, Katharine Hepburn, Judy Garland and Spencer Tracy, are working on another such program: “James Stewart: A Wonderful Life.” It’ll be hosted by Johnny Carson and is due to premiere on PBS in March. Among those sharing their memories of the beloved actor will be President and Mrs. Reagan, Clint Eastwood, Carol Burnett, Walter Matthau and Gene Kelly.
