Janice Wilkman, a free-lance photographer, has won the 1986 Eclipse Award for horse racing photography for a picture of John Henry that appeared in The Times Oct. 30.
Steve Dykes of Los Angeles received honorable mention in the competition, which determines the year’s best racing photo. Dykes, also a free-lancer, was cited for a picture of jockey Jack Kaenel being thrown by a horse at the start of a race at Hollywood Park. That photo also appeared in The Times.
