Los Angeles County landscapes captured 12 awards from a total of 233 projects submitted throughout the state for the 1986 judging by the California Landscape Contractors Assn.

The judges, according to the association’s executive director, Sharon McGuire, spent two weeks visiting every site in California to name winners for each of 26 residential and commercial categories, plus eight major awards.

The Sweepstakes Trophy, the association’s highest honor, went to Landscape Resources Inc. of Fallbrook for its installation at Brookside Farms West, a residential estate and race horse training facility in Bonsall (San Diego County). The firm landscaped eight acres in a 170-foot deep ravine, introducing meandering streams and cascading waterfalls, ponds and picnic area.
