A former lover of Perry Mason’s turns up in the next TV movie about the famed attorney: “Perry Mason: The Case of the Lost Love.” Jean Simmons has been cast as the woman from Perry’s past. Also in the NBC movie with Raymond Burr and Barbara Hale are Robert Walden, Gordon Jump and Robert Mandan. That film in February will be followed by another “Perry Mason” saga in the spring and by at least four more in the 1987-88 season, NBC says.

Treat Williams has the title role in “J. Edgar Hoover,” a film biography of the former FBI director that makes its debut on Showtime Jan. 11. David Ogden Stiers portrays Franklin Roosevelt, and Louise Fletcher plays Hoover’s mother.

Bulimia, already the subject of a TV movie on NBC this season, is also the subject of “Little Miss Perfect,” a “CBS Schoolbreak Special” set for broadcast Jan. 13. It was directed by Marsha Mason and stars Diane Baker and Mary Tanner as mother and daughter. . . . Ron Leibman plays a high school teacher in “A Class Act,” an “ABC Afterschool Special” that will be seen in March. The hourlong drama, directed by Kevin Hooks, shows what a difference an inspirational instructor can make in a young person’s life.

Another “CBS Schoolbreak Special” is headed for prime time. “My Dissident Mom,” in which Annie Potts plays an anti-nuclear activist, originally was going to air on a weekday afternoon in October, but the network pulled it back and now is giving it the 8 p.m. berth on Jan. 14. The hourlong drama also stars Martin Sheen, Lukas Haas and Alexandra Powers.

Also coming up Jan. 14 is “Lions of the African Night,” the first new “National Geographic” special of the season. It focuses mostly on a pride of 30 lions but also includes footage of the after-dark activities of other animals and insects, including frogs, centipedes and baboons.

Diana Ross will be back as host of the 14th annual American Music Awards. They’ll be broadcast on ABC Jan. 26 from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
