Pico Rivera : Boulevard Speed Study
The City Council has voted to spend $2,500 for a traffic study that will enable Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies to use radar against speeding motorists on Rosemead Boulevard.
The council voted unanimously Monday night to contract with the county Public Works Department for a study to determine a safe traffic speed along the boulevard, City Manager Dennis Courtemarche said.
The survey will be conducted next month, he said.
“I would expect this spring we’ll be able to enforce new limits if (there is) a change,” Courtemarche said. “If not, we’ll be able to enforce the current limit with radar.”
State law requires that such a survey be conducted every five years if radar is to be used. The city has not been able to use radar along Rosemead Boulevard since 1984, when the last survey period expired. The speed limit on Rosemead Boulevard is 40 m.p.h.
Radar is used to enforce speed limits on other city streets, Courtemarche said.
The city contracts with the Sheriff’s Department for police services.
