A small four-wheel drive vehicle ran a red light in Santa Ana on Wednesday afternoon and slammed into a small school bus, heavily damaging both vehicles, police said.

No children were aboard the bus, officers reported. Both drivers were hospitalized with serious injuries, and the driver of the jeep-like vehicle was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, police said.

A passenger in the vehicle that hit the bus, who was belted to his seat, was unhurt, officers said.
