Zany Tactics Hangs On for San Carlos Win
Zany Tactics withstood a late challenge by Bolder Than Bold to score a half-length victory in Saturday’s $100,600 San Carlos Handicap before 37,024 fans at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Jack Kaenel, Zany Tactics ran the seven furlongs in 1:22 2/5. It was Kaenel’s first stakes win at Santa Anita.
Bolder Than Bold, ridden by Gary Baze, finished second, 2 3/4 lengths ahead of Epidaurus and Bill Shoemaker.
The winner paid $6.80, $3.20 and $4. Bolder Than Bold was coupled in the wagering with Epidaurus, and the entry returned $2.20 and $2.40.
