Castro, who a witness said was traveling northbound on DeSoto Avenue at about 80 m.p.h. at the time of the crash, ran a red light and struck a truck going westbound on Saticoy Street, police said.

The driver of the truck, Alfredo Quintanilla, 28, of Canoga Park was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition with facial cuts and fractures, police said.

A passenger in the truck, Michael VanBooven 30, also of Canoga Park was listed in critical condition with multiple injuries in the same hospital, said Effie Castro, nursing supervisor.

Quintanilla was cited for driving while intoxicated and for not having a driver’s license, Laetzsch said.
