Veteran Los Angeles County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn was taken to Daniel Freeman Hospital in Inglewood Sunday night after complaining of dizziness, and a hospital spokeswoman said he would be kept in the coronary care unit overnight for observation.

The spokeswoman, Christie Ciraulo, said the supervisor was “awake, alert and moving all of his limbs properly . . . He will probably undergo diagnostic tests tomorrow. His condition is good. All his vital signs are stable.”

Hahn, 66, a supervisor since 1952, was reported stricken at the Hacienda Hotel in El Segundo, where he had gone to participate in the installation of officers of the Gardena Valley Gardener’s Assn.

Became Disoriented

El Segundo Police Lt. Robin Radford said that paramedics reported that Hahn had become disoriented, spilled a glass of water and momentarily lost control of his left arm. However, El Segundo Fire Capt. Tom Kennedy said that when the paramedics arrived all of Hahn’s limbs were functioning and he complained only of dizziness.

“He was improving even as he was taken to the hospital,” Kennedy said.

Hahn deputy Mas Fukai, who was at the hotel, said he noticed the supervisor “looking a little pale and edgy.”

“I said, ‘Kenneth, are you OK?’ ” Fukai said. “He said, ‘I’m OK.’ But I didn’t believe him, because his eyes were looking kind of funny.”

Hahn, who underwent heart bypass surgery several years ago, was reported by Fukai to be angry that so much was made of his hospitalization.

Another aide, Harry Marlow, said he was told that doctors at the hospital were uncertain what, if anything, was wrong, but that Hahn was resting comfortably.
