San Ysidro
Two people attempting to cross Interstate 5 in San Ysidro were struck and killed Monday morning by vehicles in two unrelated accidents, the California Highway Patrol said.
The CHP reported that, at 3:30 a.m. an unidentified male Latino, about 20 to 25 years old, attempted to run across the freeway just south of Via de San Ysidro when he was hit by a northbound car. He was dead at the scene.
About 6:15 a.m., an unidentified female, probably in her 50s, also was hit by a northbound vehicle just north of Via de San Ysidro, a deputy coroner said. She also was dead at the scene.
Authorities said they believe both victims were undocumented immigrants who may have just crossed the border.
