A series of four earthquakes shook San Salvador in quick succession, sending hundreds of residents fleeing into the streets and collapsing some buildings damaged by last October’s major quake. Telephone service was knocked out in some parts of the capital. Salvadoran officials said there were no reports of deaths or injuries. Government spokesman Robert Viera said that two of the temblors measured 3.0 and 4.0 on the Richter scale. An earthquake last Oct. 10 left more than 1,200 people dead.
