A 16-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery of an El Toro doughnut store was re-booked as a suspect in the brutal Dec. 11 attack on newspaper carrier Catherine Hunter, 23, of Santa Ana. A spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said Deputies William Tressler and Steve Ripple were on patrol early Sunday when they saw a young man race past them wearing a black ski mask and black clothing, and carrying an aluminum baseball bat and what appeared to be a handgun. They took him into custody in connection with the attempted robbery, reported only a few minutes earlier, of DK’s Donuts in the 2400 block of Muirlands Boulevard--and then realized that he also matched the description of the man who attacked Hunter last December, breaking her jaw and arm, fracturing her skull and severely damaging one eye. The suspect’s name was withheld because of his age.
