San Marino : School Panel Favors Tax

Share

A fiscal planning committee appointed by the San Marino school board has reported that it will support a third effort to pass a parcel tax if the board proposes another ballot measure. Two recent attempts at special taxes have failed to get the necessary two-thirds vote. Supt. David Brown said it is too late for the board to make a tax proposal for the June election, but it could do so later in the year. The committee also proposed creating an endowment fund to help pay for repairs to old buildings that are not maintained with state funds. A tax on developers for construction that went into effect Jan. 1 is expected to provide from $50,000 to $60,000 a year for the district.
