Long Beach : 3 School Sites to Be Bought

Share

The Long Beach Unified School District has received a go-ahead from the state Allocation Board to acquire land for three new elementary schools. District officials say negotiations are under way to acquire the 5.4-acre Southern California Military Academy on Cherry Avenue in Signal Hill, 4 acres of vacant land adjacent to College Intermediate School in Long Beach, and 9.4 acres in a residential area east of Rose Avenue between 14th and 15th streets in Long Beach.

The sites, school officials said, could accommodate up to 2,000 elementary pupils in 64 classrooms by 1991. Acquisition of the sites is one of several alternatives to overcrowding being pursued by the district, which has more than 65,000 students and is growing at a rate of 1,500 to 2,000 students per year.
