Cerritos : 6 Crash Site Homes Rebuild

Share

Construction is under way on six of 10 homes destroyed in the Aug. 31 crash of an Aeromexico jetliner, Cerritos officials said. To speed building permits through the approval process, the City Council ordered its staff to give any rebuilding request top priority. The six homes now under construction should be finished by summer.

Owners of four other homes destroyed when the DC-9 slammed into the residential neighborhood near Carmenita Road and 183rd Street have not applied for permits to rebuild, officials said. Seven other homes that were damaged have been repaired.

Since the disaster, the city has received more than $185,000 in contributions for the Cerritos Disaster Assistance Fund. About $112,000 has been distributed to residents living in those 17 homes destroyed or damaged.
