The Region : Marineland Whales Moved to San Diego
Corky and Orky, the two killer whales at Marineland in Rancho Palos Verdes, were moved to Sea World in San Diego where, it is hoped, they will breed with the three killer whales there. Corky and Orky have produced calves at Marineland but none has survived. Sea World handlers are counting on a larger tank and special training at San Diego to facilitate breeding in captivity, which has occurred successfully only at the Sea World park in Orlando, Fla. Marineland officials said they will develop a new show involving smaller pilot whales and dolphins. The move comes about three weeks after Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, which owns Sea World, assumed ownership of Marineland.
