NHL Roundup : It Was Worth the Long Wait for New Jersey

Doug Sulliman had three goals and an assist to carry the New Jersey Devils to their first-ever home victory over the Calgary Flames, 7-5, in a game delayed nearly two hours because of a blizzard at East Rutherford, N.J.

A crowd of 11,249 paid to see the game, but only 334 showed up.

The game, scheduled to start at 7:35 p.m. EST, finally got under way at 9:22. Many New Jersey players were late in arriving because of the eight-inch snowfall that hit the area. The Flames, who played the New York Islanders Tuesday night, were staying in a nearby hotel and made it on time.

Sulliman scored a goal in the first period and two in the third as New Jersey broke a three-game losing streak and a seven-game home winless streak against Calgary.

Peter McNab added four assists for New Jersey, which sent Calgary to its fifth loss in six games.

Boston 7, Montreal 3--Tom McCarthy scored two goals at Boston, and the Bruins moved within two points of the Adams Division-leading Canadiens. The Bruins remained in third place in the division, one point behind Hartford.

The start of the game was delayed a half-hour due to the snowstorm. Paid attendance was 13,439, but only 7,012 fans showed up.
