Share

A man wanted for questioning in burglary and theft cases was caught by police Thursday afternoon trying to break into an apartment while the resident watched from inside, authorities said.

Jeffrey Bishop, 31, was arrested on suspicion of burglary at 12:44 p.m., when police found him outside an apartment in the 17000 block of San Mateo Street, Sgt. Larry Griswold said. The resident of the apartment, who was not identified, called police when he saw somebody trying to remove a back window, Griswold said.

The resident told police that Bishop had knocked on his door earlier in the day asking for an acquaintance, Griswold said. After the resident said that he did not know him, Bishop left. The resident then left his apartment to go on an errand, but he noticed Bishop walking near the apartment parking lot and became suspicious, Griswold said.
