Tustin : Police Dog Helps Catch Suspect in Burglary
A police dog played a key role in catching one of two Santa Ana men arrested Friday on suspicion of burglary and assault with a deadly weapon, Tustin police reported.
One of the arrested suspects, George Torrez, 25, suffered dog bites on the shoulders, back and legs. Police said Torrez was treated at Healthcare Medical Center in Tustin before being booked into Orange County Jail. Also arrested was Alfredo Cardenas, 21, of Santa Ana. Both were being held on $10,000 bail.
Police said that Thomas Ferolito, 20, of Tustin spotted two men about 1 p.m. Friday attempting to break into Ferolito’s parked car in the 600 block of West 6th Street. Ferolito tried to stop the two men, and they assaulted him with a tool being used to break into the car, police said. The two then fled in a van, and Ferolito notified police. Officers Ron Frazier and Robert LaBarge stopped the vehicle at El Camino and 3rd streets.
One of the suspects fled on foot, police said, but the police dog tracked him down. That suspect subsequently was identified as Torrez.
