SWEPT AWAY

Share

After 25 years of subscribing to The Times, I recently dropped my subscription; not because your news coverage, sports pages or editorial offerings have declined, but because of the Calendar section.

My wife and I have always been interested in the music business and the Calendar music reviews and information about new albums and artists was something we couldn’t wait to read.

Over the last few years this coverage has changed so dramatically that there is virtually no coverage of music except the arcane offerings of New Wave. I assume that Robert Hilburn and others perceive that most popular music fans are into that strange form of rock. Pop-country, country, even regular rock get little or no coverage.

I think a review--however brief--of, say, a new Sylvia album is just as important as an elongated, rambling story about a new group of 20-year-old musicians who have attracted a following of teen-agers on Sunset Boulevard (“Peter Case--Taking It to the Street,” by Robert Hilburn, Jan. 12).

It’s a sad goodby.
