Providence, R.I., TV stations WPRI and WNAC and Boston stations WNEV and WLVI have joined KRON-TV in San Francisco and WRTV in Indianapolis in accepting commercials for condoms. All the stations say the controversial ads must pertain to the use of prophylactics to prevent AIDS. “It’s a responsible measure on the part of the broadcaster to air commercials which inform the public on serious matters,” Ric Gorman, general manager of the independent WNAC, said Saturday. “We owe it to our audience.”
