Fumes Close 2 Airport Terminals

Share

A dozen people received medical treatment and two terminals at Los Angeles International Airport were closed for eight hours overnight after roach poison leaked from damaged containers in the luggage of a woman passenger from Guadalajara, Mexico, said Ray Atkinson, superintendent of operations at the airport.

Fumes from the insecticide caused the evacuation of about 150 people from terminals 4 and 5, affecting operations of Mexicana, Western and American airlines and several smaller commuter airlines, said Atkinson. Eight Western Airlines baggage handlers and four custodians were treated at Centinela Hospital and the airport’s medical center. The terminals reopened this morning.
