A 73-year-old North Hollywood man who stepped out of his damaged car to talk to the driver whose car he had struck Monday in Sun Valley got back in his car, slumped over the wheel and died, apparently of a heart attack, police said.

The accident happened about 1 p.m. at San Fernando Road and Tuxford Street, Los Angeles police Officer Robert Rowe said. There were no witnesses, but the other driver told police he had entered the intersection on a green light when he was struck by David Cohen, Rowe said.

Cohen stepped out and exchanged information with the other driver, telling him he wore a pacemaker, Rowe said. He then returned to the car and suffered the apparent heart failure, Rowe said.
